The village of Barumini is located in the fertile plains of the Campidano area and its immediate vicinity is the largest and most important nuragic site in the world. The Nuraghe are stone forts dating back to the Bronze Age that exist only in Sardinia and Su Nuraxi, is the best preserved and largest in existence. Near Barumini, there is also the plateau (Giara) of Gesturi, a natural oasis that offers a splendid view of the surrounding area where the small native Sardinian horses roam free.
